We had another great week of learning!
On Monday we paired up with our 5th grade buddies and read together. The 5th graders shared their Wolf Ridge scrapbooks. The first and second graders were AMAZED at the creativity put into the scrapbooks.
In reader’s workshop we are working on making inferences while reading. Students are making inferences to understand characters’ feelings, motivations and actions. This can be a challenging comprehension strategy; however, it is a deeper level of thinking. On Thursday we practiced making inferences by reading each others’ body language. We did a little acting! The kiddos were given a card (mowing the lawn, hula hooping, etc. ) and they had to act it out with partners without talking. As a class we had to use our “schema” and the clues to figure out what they were doing. Let’s say we had a lot of fun!
Both the first and second graders are starting new units in math. Please continue to practice math facts at home!
