February is filled with fun! This week we celebreated Valentine's Day, and the 100th Day of School! We exchanged valetines, played bingo, and then students got to roam the school and do all sorts of fun activities. I took several pictures and will try to get them uploaded on shutterfly. Thank you volunteers!!
This past week we learned more about inferences and the kids had the chance to make inferences during their independent reading. This strategy is meant for the reader to "read between the lines" and make their own guesses and predictions about the book.
In math the first graders are learning about Fact Families. This is an introduction to subtraction. Please continue to practice addition and if your child is ready, practice subtraction facts at home too!
Yesterday and today we have been talking about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. We learned that Washington wore a wig! The kids thought that was funny :) We also learned that Lincoln was known as one of the greatest presidents of all time because of his contribution during the Civil War. Next week the kids will choose one president and write about him.
