Weekly Updates

We had a great week here at Glendale!  The kids are busy getting reading for our all school read-a-thon!  Our  fundraiser has been very successful so far! We are close to our goal and there is still time to turn in student envelopes (Monday please). Participation is an important part of the fundraiser and all students returning the envelope will receive a raffle ticket towards one of the fun prizes. The Read-a-thon committee would like to see all kids have a chance to win! Thank you to all families for helping your child participate and supporting Glendale. On Tuesday we will spend the day reading in many different rooms around the entire school.  The class got to sign up for where they wanted to read.  I know they are looking forward to the big day!
We have been working very hard on addition and subtraction basic facts in math this week.  Next week the unit review will come home for you to work on with your child.  We will take the unit 1 math test on Thursday.  Please watch your child's planner for the review and remember to finish the unit 1 math packet by Thursday.
In science we have been learning about weather and it has been fun to see our summer fade and fall begin!  We also have been doing experiments with sunlight and water.
On Wednesday, October 10th is Bullying Awareness Day at school. This day is part of Bullying Awareness Month and students should wear orange. Students will receive an orange paper wrist band to wear during the day if they would like also.
Finally, we have parent and teacher conferences start Thursday evening and continue Friday morning.  Thank you for turning in your slips.  If you haven't already, please let me know if you need to reschedule or if you are planning on coming in.  I look forward to meeting with you.  Your child doesn't need to come to their conference but if they do they can join us or read books in our classroom while we chat.
