Hello, and welcome to a new school year! My name is Melanie Anderson and I am looking forward to being your child’s second grade teacher. Some children will be joining our “looping class” this year. Last year I taught a first and second grade combination classroom. Most of the first graders from the class looped up with me to second grade. The students and myself are eager to see our friends again and meet new ones!
This is my tenth year teaching at Glendale Elementary. I am excited to be back again at such a wonderful school. My husband, Brian Anderson, teaches Health and Physical Education at Twin Oaks Middle School. He taught P.E. last year at FiveHawks, WestWood, Jefferes Pond, and Edgewood. Previously he taught at Hidden Oaks Middle School. Learning is a passion of mine that I hope to instill in your child! This summer has been a busy one for me. In February, Brian and I welcomed twin daughters to our family, Berkley and Brooke. We spent the summer together as a family. We live in Elko and have two Labradoodle dogs named Oakley and Aspen. Just like your children I will need to start going to bed earlier and get into a routine to be ready for school. I hope this summer filled you and your family with many fun activities as well.
Second grade will bring many new experiences and challenges for your child. Our classroom is 210, it is the same room I was in last year. We will begin our year by taking time in September to build a community of learners. We will get to know each other and make sure everyone knows what is expected of them by creating rules together. September is also a time for us to review skills and “refresh” our brains from summer break.
I look forward to learning with your child this year. You are always welcome to visit our classroom or contact me at anytime. Good communication is needed to provide the best education possible. I look forward to seeing you at Open House on Wednesday, August 29th from 3:30-5:30 and on the second grade curriculum night on Tuesday, September 18th at 5:30pm.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Melanie Anderson

I have a few extra supplies for you to bring to class this year:
Healthy snack (everyday), water bottle with a secure pop lid (not twist off), small pencil sharpener with shaving case
***Remember to please sharpen pencils before coming to school!***
Label only these supplies from the school list, the rest we will share and should not be labeled:
Crayon box, binder, notebooks, folders, scissors, water bottle, pencil sharpener, pencil box (please make sure this is a small plastic box not a bag).
We DO NOT need the following items from the list. If you have already purchased them, it is okay to send them in as I will add them to what I already have for the class:
3x3 post it notes and 1 pkg of wide ruled loose leaf paper
Each student will also need to purchase an assignment notebook. They are on sale in the office for $4.00.
